Door Pin Removal Page

I saw on some other Pinzer's page how they had removed the pins in the front hinges. This would allow you to easily remove

the doors and lift them off. Cool Idea I thought! Little did I know what a pain this project was to become...although it has proven useful.

DOOR PIN MODIFICATION:

necessary tools:    drill and bits, stainless wire, stainless ring or

1. remove crappy pull handle from pin.

2. finish drilling hole all the way through the pin. A vise or drill press works great here.....

3. thread hole with stainless wire, making sure to include the ring when you make a complete loop. (I made 3 loops through hole)

HINGE REMOVAL / REPLACEMENT:

1. Locate pins on front hinges.

2. Liberally soak them in PB blaster for a few days prior to working on them

3. open door.

4. Remove interior panel by undoing rusty old screws. carefully peel off paperboard door panel.

5. Remove door from Pinzgauer by unscrewing the large countersunk screws located on the body.

6. Place door on garage floor.

7. Get correct size socket and remove bolts holding on hinges.

8. Separate hinges from door.

9. Take hinges to vise and clamp

10. Grab BFH and correct sized punch.

11. Begin pounding out pins. Some are easier than others. Constantly lubricate with PB blaster.

12. If removal stalls, begin to drill out the center pin. A drill press would be ideal here, but a hand drill will work. (just go slow!)

13. Once pins are out, run some sandpaper through holes to smooth them out on the inside.

14. replace pin with new removable stainless pin. (you did get these done ahead of time right?) now remove the pin  after fit seems good.

15. Reinstall hinges back on Pinzgauer. Making sure the correct hinge is on either top or bottom ( go look on the other door if you're unsure )

16. Set doors into position (some grunting will work here) and drop pins into hinges.

17. make sure wire pull handle of pin is easily removable, if not, grind down offending material until it fits well.

18. Be happy, now you get to do the other side! However, you can now remove your doors just by pulling 2 pins.
