    5/19

Yester day, Wed., Kelsi and I got started on the deck after I had lunch with some teaching colleagues at Greeley West.

We began by finishing up installing the hurricane clips. hurricane clips

Wholly Crap, we had lots of hammering to do. It took a while, because the sun was roasting, but we got most of it done in a little over an hour. joists!

Our next thing to do was attach the Rim joist. Since Kelsi is prego and can't lift heavy things I did a little pre-drilling on one end of the board, and tapped a 16d nail through so that while I was holding the board in place she could tack it in. Once it was tacked and level, we got the other side tacked in as well. Finally we just nailed the whole thing up.Superman attacks the rim joist!!    Superman is at it again

Superwoman and the rim joist have words!

After the rim joist was up, I cut the long ends of the rim joists to size.

After that, I finished up nailing in the rest of the hurricane ties.

Once that was done, I began by adding the flashing where the east rim joist meets the house. I had to remove some of the siding, and fiddle-f*ck with it, but I got it in place eventually. Now we won't have problems with water in the future.

Things are coming along at a record pace. The next order of business is getting the decking installed. Woo-hoo!! I'm probably going to throw some pea-gravel under the deck before I get to that step. I'm also going to hang the hose under the deck.

At this pace, we should have the decking up by Sun. if not sooner.
